Copperstate 1000

The 2012 Copperstate 1000

Every April brings enthusiasts from all over the world to Phoenix for the Copperstate 1000 classic car rally. Today these historic cars left Tempe Diablo Stadium to the cheers of several hundred people as Rick DeBruhl (SpeedTV) read the bios of drives and cars alike. The 9:30 am send off was the start of their 4 day rally around the back roads of Arizona. Tomorrow I have the chance to join them for lunch…so stay tuned!

Scuderia Southwest show is tomorrow!

Here in Phoenix there is only one exotic car show that brings together all sports car owners of all marques. Scuderia Southwest. Normally known as the guys that host the monthly Cars and Coffee and Scottsdale Road and Doubletree on the first Saturday of each month.

Well, tomorrow is their annual show, the “Windgate Festival of Speed”. Held at (of course) the Windgate Club House in the Windgate community in north Scottsdale. I will be there handing out free guidebooks to all that show their cars! See you tomorrow!

Directions : North on Loop 101 in Scottsdale. Exit onto Bell and head East. North on E. Thompson Peak Parkway. Left into the Windgate Community.

Arizona Collector Car Auctions and that F40…

Once again, January in Arizona seems to set the mood of the collector car market for the year to come. Records were broken and some great cars changed hands. Of all the cars out there during these auctions, the one that I lusted after was this Ferrari F40. Of course I didn’t buy it…LOL..I didn’t have a spare $800k sitting about.

Of course this sale sets a high for this super car and must make the seller happy, but it is also kinda sad. Here is a car with ONLY 284 miles. Seriously. Imagine all the stories these previous owners could have told….and the turns are curves they could have cruised. All the gas stations stops that would have thrilled other motorists (I imagine with only 284 – this means perhaps the car visited the gas station ONCE in 22 years). O’well. Perhaps the new owner might see fit to drive it….

The Arizona auto auctions are coming!

I can’t believe it is almost that time of year! The collector car auctions are just weeks away! Over the next week or so, I’ll be posting some information on how 2012 will be a little different from past years.
