Phoenix Comicon 2011
So what does the Phoenix 2011 Comicon Convention have to do with cars you may ask? Well, one word..nothing. Well almost nothing. But seeing as how most car enthusiasts are secretly torn between that age old dilemma "Star Wars or Star Trek?", we thought we should go and check it out.
Turns out the Phoenix Comicon is a great place for car enthusiasts! One obvious attraction? The Ghostbuster's 1972 Pontiac Bonneville Ambulance, otherwise known as the "Ecto AZ". This highly modified ambulance sports a 455cc V8 as well as all those extras for more ghostly matters. Check out their website www.arizonaghostbusters.com for more info!
What else is there? Well for the car enthusiast we spotted a Mini Cooper and a Suzuki GXR 600 with Carbon Fibre wrap as well...but enough car stuff..the real fun is finding a few Stormtroopers and stalking them for pictures..and if you see Darth Vader, your day is made! In this case, my daughter's day was made!
Who & what else did we see? One odd pair we saw was Barf from "Spaceballs" (Didn't ask about the Winnebago) hanging out with Boba Fett. Plus droids..lots and lots of droids. Of course R2D2 was there in at least triplicate.
We saw vendors, artists, and movie stars. The 2011 highlights included actor Billy Dee Williams (pictured below), Leonard Nimoy, Wil Wheaton, George Takei, and many more...
This was my first ever trip to any sort of Comicon (Pretty surprising considering I love Star Wars) and I was duly impressed. For a moment...(about 5 minutes on the drive home actually) I considered dressing up for next year..but then again, maybe I'll just take pictures. See Phoenix Comicon for more info.
