The German Biergarten

The rule is simple. You may bring your own food, but please buy the drinks at the Biergarten.

There are few places on earth I find as relaxing as a German Biergarten. But let's establish one more rule before we go any further. Germany has almost zero tolerance for drinking and driving...so don't risk drinking and driving. Besides their public transportation is fantastic.By the way, the beer pictured above is alcohol free!

Even though most of the Europe is buried in snow, sit back imagine what a warm summer day in my favorite biergarten in Munich, Germany is like. You will be listening to live jazz music as the wind gently blows the chestnut trees overhead. The food isn't just great, it's fantastic. The smell of the spare ribs on the grill is just barely matched by the sweet smell of the warm "Auszogne" (donuts) being baked near by.

This is a must stop for anyone visiting Munich. Trust me. You will not be disappointed. Not only is this a great Biergarten, it is also a great place to spot some great cars.

The Biergarten is located in Solln in the south of Munich. It is perched up above the Isar and can be accessed by both car and bike. (Yes I have biked to the biergarten from the city center!).

The music is jazz and their program lasts all summer long. If you visit in the winter, there is also a restaurant open all year long. The name is the biergarten is Waldwirtschaft!..and I've been going there for over 20 years. It is BY FAR my favorite place in Munich.
