Amelia Island Concours Marks the Beginning of Enthusiast Season
Freshly a week removed from the 2017 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, this crowning event conjures more than just the cars themselves. This event is widely regarded as the transition from the sleepy winter period into the spring season, where automotive enthusiasts lift the covers from their cars, get that fresh shine going and unleash their pristine vehicle out on an adventure away from its confinement in the garage.
Located on the grounds of The Gulf Club of Amelia Island, the 22nd annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance featured over 300 immaculate automobiles and motorcycles. The two winners of the prized possessions of the event, the Concours de Sport and Concours d’Elegance, were awarded to a 1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Lungo Spider and a 1935 Duesenberg Model SJ-582 Torpedo Phaeton, respectively.
Bill Warner, Chairman and Founder of Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, was reported as saying on Sports Car Digest, “Both the Duesenberg Model SJ-582 and Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Lungo Spider are extravagant vehicles and we are thrilled to give them the praise they deserve.”
Thousands of spectators flocked to the fairways of The Gulf Club of Amelia Island to revel in the cars, but also the camaraderie found at these events. Enthusiasts’ cars were not the only things cooped up during the winter months. This event serves as the beginning of the season for automotive enthusiasts to stretch their legs and their gears for a thrilling event, rally or Concours campaign.
Amelia Island Concours gets things moving on the east coast. And now just about every weekend, the season alternates between polarizing coasts of the U.S. What’s next on your calendar?
